Last night Atlanta played host to the 2009 Soul Train Awards which returned after a two year break. The who's who of the black music industry attended the event including, of course, co-hosts Taraji P. Hensen and Terrence Howard, Charlie Wilson, Chaka Khan, Toni Braxton, Keri Hilson, Monica, Chrisette Michelle, Keith Sweat, MC Hammer, Fantasia (who has lost much weight and looks great!), Chico DeBarge and the list goes on. However, there were quite a few big no shows as well. Among the no shows: Beyonce, Kanye West, Maxwell, Mary Mary, Ne-Yo, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson and Drake. The absentees were glaring because many of them won awards but were not present to accept. Beyonce won several awards including Best Album. Mary, Mary and Maxwell also won awards. Some of the moments of note, Charlie Wilson receiving the Soul Train Legend Award and a special tribute performance. The tribute included performances by Keith Sweat, Genuwine, Raheem DeVaughn, Brian Mcknight, K-Ci and JoJo and Kandi. Angie Stone did a tribute to Chaka Khan by performing "Ain't Nobody". The act was highlighted by Chaka jumping in at the end to duet with Angie spontaneously (hope this isn't edited out!).

For the first time ever, the Soul Train Awards recognized the genre of reggae music. Big ups to the producers of the show for recognizing the significance of reggae music in America and, indeed, all over the globe. A huge congratulations to pop dancehall king Sean Paul. Sean Paul won the first ever award for Reggae Artist of the Year. Big ups to the other nominees in the category included Serani, Ziggy Marley, Taurus Riley and Mavado. By the way, check out Sean Paul episode's on A&E Sessions this Sunday, Nov. 8 at 9AM (its a re-broadcast in case you missed it). Sean Paul is pictured above during his recent visit to the Mo'Nique Show. The interview with Mo'Nique will air on November 10 at 11PM EST.

Precious is a new movie set to be released on November 6, 2009. Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey have joined forces to present this independent movie. The movie, directed by Lee Daniels, is based on the book "Push" by Sapphire and centers around a young teenage mother, Clareece "Precious" Jones. Precious is a victim of abuse and struggles with issues of self esteem and self hate. Despite these challenges, Precious is a story of triumph and perseverance in the face trial and tribulation.
In an email to his fans, Tyler Perry discusses the movie and why he wanted to get involved with its production. Here is an excerpt:
"This movie was so real and so incredibly relevant that I had to get involved. I called Oprah and she said she had the film but hadn't had time to see it yet. A couple of hours later she called me back after she had seen it. Neither of us could speak. We both sat in silence on the phone for a while. Hearing all that was said without words. What was amazing was that after that initial moment of "WOW!" we both ended up with the same feelings of overwhelming joy. So we decided to join together to present this film. I think the world should see it. Not only is it groundbreaking and real but it caused me to remember and to thank God I made it through that. I'll tell you more as it gets closer but just know that the reason I signed on to executive produce this movie is because I know I'm not alone. I know that there are millions of people out there who went through what I went through, what Oprah went through, and what Precious went through. And we all can say, "Thank God we made it!!"
Check out the trailer - Enjoy!!

Last night, Teyona Anderson, a 20 year old bank teller from New Jersey, won America's
Next Top Model (cycle 12). Although Teyona struggled with her Cover Girl commercial she worked the catwalk in Brazil to triumph over Allison Harvard, 20, of New Orleans, and third place contestant Aminat Ayinde, 21, of Union, N.J. Teyona was certainly not the favorite going in but her consistency throughout the season paid off in the end. Teyona appeared on Regis and Kelly today and confessed that she had thrown in the towel and assumed that Allison would win the highly coveted title. But one good stroke of her Cover Girl magic marker turned lipstick, a sexy roll around in the black runway tar and a whimsical twirl of her misguided ponytail (dang, a sista's worst nightmare - a transient weave!!! ) proved enough for the stunning Jerseyite to prevail. Congratulations Teyona!!!

Ok, so we have all heard the rumors that Chris & Rihanna have reconciled - ok its true!! OK, everyone get over it! Rihanna is 21 years old and in love so I'm not surprised. Besides, we still don't know what really happened. Last week the pair hung out in Miami at Diddy's exclusive Miami Beach waterfront estate (with the break up of Danity Kane Diddy has been forced to take in house guests!). Here, they are pictured exiting a private jet plane after landing in L.A. (returning to the scene of the crime I guess). Chris Brown has put to rest the old adage "the darker the berry, the sweeter the juice". His juice is obviously light & sweet and Rihanna is TOTALLY drinking the Kool-Aid. By the way, Chris is reportedly scheduled to cop a plea with L.A. prosecutors and possibly as early as today. Ok, Moving right along....
