Sound system greatness returns to Jamaican TV with the Guinness Sounds of Greatness reality show on TVJ, starting September 3 at 9:30 pm. The sound clash competition will chronicle the journey of 12 sounds as they vie for the enviable title of Guinness Sounds of Greatness Champion as well as $1 million and top prizes from internationally renowned DJ equipment producers Serato.
Former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier has been taken into custody after his surprise return from exile after 24 years.
CNN reports that he has been arrested, but the Associated Press is more cautious, saying police have Duvalier from the hotel, but says it is unclear whether he was formally arrested.
Award-winning St. Lucian reggae artistTaj Weekes and his band Adowa push the boundaries of reggae once again with their third release, A Waterlogged Soul Kitchen, on Jatta Records. Halfway through their 35th Anniversary tour, Third World Band will be the opening act at the 14th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival. The Grammy-nominated group will share the stage with reggae artists Capleton, Tarrus Riley, Ky-Mani Marley, Sizzla and R&B artists Fabolous and Babyface Edmonds.
The St. Kitts Tourism Authority made the announcement regarding the addition of Third World Band to the line-up on April 27, 2010. Faron Lawrence, Chairman of the St. Kitts Music Festival stated, "The addition of these outstanding performers for the 2010 Music Festival helps us to ensure that the crowd will be delighted by a program of diverse high-energy, vibrant acts." The festival will take place at Warner Park Stadium from June 24-26, 2010.
Stephen "Cat" Coore remarked, "We are always happy when we are afforded the opportunity to be a part of something groundbreaking. We've heard nothing but great things about the festival, so to say that we are humbled by the invitation from the St. Kitts Tourism Authority to perform, is an understatement. We are equally excited to share the stage with the artists that are on the line-up."
Ky-mani Marley is offcially an author and has embarked upon a 27-city book signing tour for his newly released autobiography 'Dear Dad'. The book tour was slightly delayed due to issues with the young, self-made millionaire and entrepreneur, Dr. Farrah Gray. The two have made amends and have begun hitting cities near you. UPDATE: The hearing regarding Buju Banton's dietary concerns was held on Friday March 26. Judge Anthony Porcelli refuted claims that Buju lost 40 pounds. According to the St. Petersburg Times, Capt. Mark Fletcher presented evidence that Buju weighed 150 pounds when booked in on January 5 and, as of March 22, had gained 11 pounds to weigh in at 161 pounds.
