Sherri Shepherd in Hotlanta!

Sherri Shepherd's Permission SlipsSherri Shepherd and Red Carpet ShelleyCo-host of the popular talk show "The View", star of her own sitcom "Sherri" and now best selling author, Sherri Shepherd stopped  in Atlanta to promote her new book “Permission Slips: Every Woman’s Guide to Giving Herself a Break.” (Grand Central Publishing, $24.99).  Basically, the book is about women allowing themselves a break i.e. "me time".  My friends all know that I strongly espouse this life philosophy.  If I die tomorrow, trust me I have given myself  a lot of  "permission" to do things I won't expound upon here!  Sherri is one of the most personable celebrities I have ever met.  Sherri is real, down-to-earth and funny as hell.   She spoke for a few minutes (actually much longer than that!) about some of her life experiences as a single mom, being a former Jehovah's witness, working on The View and her challenges raising a special needs child.   Sherri is extremely likeable and relatable as witnessed by her "grassroots" book tour.  Sherri didn't stop in a swanky book store in Buckhead, rather she held a book signing at the Decatur Recreation Center without lots of media hoopla and lots of real fans.  Gotta love it!!!  Check out the pictures!

Sherri's book discusses her life views on love, relationships, religion, etc.  In an interview with Access Atlanta Sherri explained why she wrote the book  "I wrote this book because I feel like as women we are always trying to hold it together and be the perfect wife, mother, friend, co-worker and inside we are truly a mess. We seem to be the nurturers of our home. It was easier in our moms’ day to hold it together. We have so much more to hold together. Even now there is the guilt. At the park, your child falls, a man goes, “Did you break an arm? ” Women go, “Am I a bad mother? Is someone going to be mad at me?” We just carry a lot of guilt about not being a superwoman"

When asked what did she learned as a 40-something year old:  "That it is OK to say no. When you are younger you don’t want to say no. You care about if people like you. I found out it’s amazing when you say no. People find a way to do what they have to do. I love being 42. You hit 40 and you are like, “Look, I don’t care.” At the end of the day, I have a 4-year-old I have to raise."  Amen Sister!
