The Jamaican police have captured the accused powerful gang leader, Christopher "Dudus" Coke, as he was on his way to surrender to the US embassy in Kingston weeks after leading a bloody urban battle to avoid deportation for trial to New York.
Coke appears to have wanted to hand himself in to the Americans out of concern for his safety after his father died in a mysterious prison cell fire that some Jamaicans believe was intended to prevent him talking in court about the close links between the island's criminal gangs and leading politicians.
Halfway through their 35th Anniversary tour, Third World Band will be the opening act at the 14th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival. The Grammy-nominated group will share the stage with reggae artists Capleton, Tarrus Riley, Ky-Mani Marley, Sizzla and R&B artists Fabolous and Babyface Edmonds.
The St. Kitts Tourism Authority made the announcement regarding the addition of Third World Band to the line-up on April 27, 2010. Faron Lawrence, Chairman of the St. Kitts Music Festival stated, "The addition of these outstanding performers for the 2010 Music Festival helps us to ensure that the crowd will be delighted by a program of diverse high-energy, vibrant acts." The festival will take place at Warner Park Stadium from June 24-26, 2010.
Stephen "Cat" Coore remarked, "We are always happy when we are afforded the opportunity to be a part of something groundbreaking. We've heard nothing but great things about the festival, so to say that we are humbled by the invitation from the St. Kitts Tourism Authority to perform, is an understatement. We are equally excited to share the stage with the artists that are on the line-up."
Best of the Best 2010 went down in Miami, Florida. Since then your girl has been a bit occupied with some personal issues so I apologize for the delay in getting this to you. That being said, Best of the Best was a great show in my opinion maybe not the best but great! As usual, the show was very well attended. There were throngs of flag flying folks as far as the eyes could see. Of course, you know I got the exclusive interviews, photos, and backstage insight!
Given the recent turmoil in his home country of Jamaica, reggae artist Busy Signal decided to express himself creatively on the issue. The result, "Peace Reign" is an instant classic. The acoustic accompaniment is quite impressive while the visuals on the video are simple in contrast thus allowing the listener to appreciate the message in the music.
In my opinion, the world has only scratched the surface of Busy Signal's multi-faceted talents. I have been a fan from day one. Busy is talented and has gone quite a long time without the full recognition that is due to him - its his time to reign!
